Margaret was the Bronx Zoo’s baby giraffe only about two years ago, and she’s had a baby now, which is the weirdest thing time-wise, but I guess in giraffe years she must be like 16 or something? Anyway, there’s Margaret and her little guy James. NB #1: When I entered the zoo, I asked the ticket-taker lady which direction I should go in to find the baby giraffe and she said, “oh, he’s in ASIA” as if (a) I knew where that would be in terms of The Bronx and The Zoo and (b) giraffes were in fact originally from Asia. NB #2: Two years ago I gave my then-three year old niece a copy of the Zoo Borns book and she opened it up and recognized Margaret out of the hundreds of other baby animals (“IT’S MARGARET!!!!”). She’s a genius, obviously.
