When I made The Devil Wears Prada, it was the first time in my life that a man came up and said, ‘I know how you felt. I have a job like that.’ First time. … For men, the favorite character that I’ve ever played is Linda in The Deer Hunter, without question. The heterosexual men that I’ve spoken to over the years, they say, ‘That’s my favorite thing you’ve ever done.’ Or Sophie. And they were a particular kind of feminine, recessive personalities. No question that this person was not going to dominate the conversation at a dinner party. So they fell in love with her, but they didn’t feel the story through her body.

Meryl Streep, on how men view her roles (via nprfreshair)
I took an acting class when I was 13 or so; I thought I was going to be famous. Definitely. There was no question. I KNEW I was going to be famous. At the beginning of our first class, the teacher went around the room asking us our names and who our favorite actor was. Everyone answered “Molly Ringwald” but me. I loved her but COME ON! Of course I said “Meryl Streep.” I don’t know if I heard it somewhere or what, but I knew that was the right answer.
I re-watched Heartburn recently and remembered watching it as a little girl. Wow. Who let me watch that?
I do get upset that she gets nominated every single time she’s in a film. I haven’t seen Iron Lady yet but I’m sure it’s not the best thing she’s been in. Is it even possible that she’s just the most amazing person ever and just worthy of the nomination every single time when there are so many other very very talented people out there? Honestly, yeah. I think it’s possible. She’s the ultimate polish on any turd out there. Name me a shitty film that she was in, and I dare you to tell me that SHE was shitty.
I dare you!!
