Brian McGee and the Hollow Speed played last night at Southpaw in Brooklyn. It’s always great to see them; Not only do I get to hang out with Brian who is one of my favorite people, but they totally rock too. They’re all super-nice and we stayed up until 5am eating bacon wrapped in pancakes.
They played with a sweet bluegrass duo called Uncle Monk, which features none other than Tommy Ramone on mandolin. And yes, Uncle Monk played a folky version of “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend,” which ruled.
My little camera—which I have been complaining about for months—had completely given up* before the show even started, so I had to take this one with my phone. It looks remarkably similar to the band shots my actual camera has been taking so I’m pretty much in the market for a new point-and-shoot with a great lens for flash-free night motion shots. I’m looking through the staggering range of Panasonic Lumix cameras with the amazing Leica lenses. I’m sure I’ll just end up buying the cheapest one so I can toss it in my bag every day guilt-free, but any opinions are appreciated.
*The camera is giving me an “Access” error on the screen and is telling me to turn it off and on again. This obviously does not work, so I googled the error this morning. The majority of the advice tells me to bang the camera REALLY HARD against the counter and it will magically start working again. I refuse to believe that there is not a scientific solution to the problem, and am once again amazed by the failure of user-generated internet advice. Are you people all insane?
